Day #6

Today we saw baby seals!!!!

But I should probably start from the beginning.

Today we woke up at 6 am and began packing our stuff to head to the Ferry that would be taking us all the way to Kaikoura just south of New Zealand.

So this is the Ferry...

Pretty cool don't you think? This was my 1st time taking a Ferry this LARGE. It was a smooth ride which I didn't expect.

So after three hours we have officially landed in Kaikoura :)

Did I mention I get really bad motion sickness?! Usually taking Dramamine and sitting in the front helps but sitting in the front seat is a daily battle with my group. Anyways, the reason I mention it is because for about an hour and a half I had to sit in the very back of the car which forces me to fall sleep in order to avoid motion sickness! :( This also meant that I missed out on the beautiful scenic views. I know sad day!

But all is well because two hours into our trip we stopped at Ohau Stream and saw Seal Pups! OMG Seal Pups are the cutest thing ever!!!! See for yourself...

They were everywhere and some would just flip and swim around this large waterfall.

This man in the orange jacket (see below) talked to us about the seals and he shared some interesting facts.

Fun fact: Seals give birth to one egg and incubate the other in order to ensure the survival of their posterity.

Way cool no?!

We even found them across the street. They were just laying everywhere....

After that we decided to finally get to our next hostel and make dinner. One of the guys in my group had a great idea! He suggested we make food which was great because I have been eating out so much it's ridiculous!

So a group of us including yours truly went to the local market and we bought meat veggies and pasta.

Afterwards, I put on my cooking hat on and began cooking up some nice meat for the pasta.

Many loved the food and went for seconds some even for thirds. It was actually the best time I've had with our group because we all came together and for a minute clicks didn't exist! It was great!

So after we were full and everything was cleaned I headed to my room and began chatting it up with my roomie Angie! She is super legit and very good at listening. I am really glad she is on this trip!

So two things I learned today:

1) I OWN my emotions. I can choose to get upset or I can choose to let things slide off my back. Today I let something bother me so much that it almost ruined my whole day. I kept saying it was this person's fault. But the truth is that it wasn't. I was letting that person's actions dictate how I was feeling. I hope one day I can learn how to enjoy life even when hard times arise :)

2) Every day is filled with new experiences and new people. I CANNOT waste my time looking downwards. I need to look up and around. There is so MUCH to explore. So many places to see so many people to meet. I hope sometime in the near future I can travel again hopefully with my husband. It would be great to see the world. To witness the beauty that surrounds us!

Well that's about it hopefully you'll come back soon.

Chao!
