Day #16

I did not wake up right today. For some reason I thought I would be running late so I heard an alarm and ran (like seriously) to the bathroom and showered. My brain was like "what just happened?!"lol

But I'm glad I woke up super early because it gave me enough time to do all the things I needed to do and I didn't have to run around like a maniac.

I am really going to miss this place. So far, this has been the BEST accommodations thus far.

So our shuttles came at 7:30 am and with loading and stuff we left like around 8 am. Which was great timing because our flight was domestic and we weren't that far from the airport. Hurray!!!

Our driver Leo was super cool. He is a very strong Cristian (I can't remember the name of his religion but I know it was something I hadn't heard before) and he is from Denmark (I believe). He talked to us a lot about his beliefs and he seemed to know a bit about the LDS religion. We had a very good conversation and it was interesting to see how much he and I had in common. We talked about the problems from this generation and at the end he seemed fond of me and we even shook hands after he dropped us off. Very good man too bad we couldn't talk more.

When we were waiting around in the airport a girl from my group told me that she thinks I must have been a really good missionary because I know how to listen and produce a good feedback.

So our flight in my opinion was horrible. Due to the turbulence our plane kept going up and down. Needless to say it was a horrible experience!!!

I did have a cool dream...and when I woke up I was able to snap this pic from the plane.

Cool huh?!

Can I just say that I was freaking out when we were landing. I mean I thought Utah was bad but this...this was the dessert yall!

Look at the airport sign...

At first, I couldn't see the airport. I really thought we were gonna land in some sketchy party of the dessert and people were gonna be like "ok folks we are here get your bags and try not to get eaten by wild animals!" Lol.

It's ok though because to my surprise there was a tiny airport and a small community set up off 3 "resorts", 1 shopping center, 1 hospital, 1 police station, and 1 fire station. Pure craziness. I think I if I was left stranded here I would probably die or turn into Jane from Tarzan and become one with the animals and nature. But I'm leaning more towards the first one hahah.

In case I didn't mention this I am in the outback baby!!!!!

So we got our bags and hopped on our shuttle to our "resort."

I won't complain much about this place only that there is barely any space and the bathroom is a few blocks away. But I'm not here for the luxuries but for the adventures :) So moving on...

As soon as we get settled, Mary informs me and Angie that she got bit!!!! I'm like "oh no! I'm next!!!!" As I'm looking at the bite I'm thinking it's  a snake because of the mark. Either way I call the professor and his wife and the both come to check it out. They ask a few questions just to make sure it's not a venomous bite and decide to take her to the nearby hospital. Meanwhile, everyone goes to the supermarket but I stay a bit behind because well my knee is still hurting. Luckily, Stacey was driving by on her way to the hospital when she offered me a ride to the store. When I got there the other group wasn't there but after a few they all arrived and then Jess and I went to drop off our stuff and headed back to the shopping centre to see an Aboriginal dance (the indigenous people in the outback).

The dances were super cool. Here they are dancing.

I was pretty bummed out that I couldn't record it. But needless to say, it was new and very interesting.

Here is me and my group with the Aboriginal performers.

After the pictures we all seperated. Some people got some souvenirs and I got 3 postcards for Jenna, Nadine, and Britt. I hope they like it... Also it's soooooooo expensive to send something out! So sorry folks but I won't be sending out too many postcards on this trip.

After that Mallory, Jess, and I walked home and hanged out for a bit because at six we were leaving to hike a trail.

It's six and it's still light outside. So we waited a bit and then we were ready to hike.

Just as we begin our hike, Greg our TA decides to get creative. Lol. Just FYI the lady at the resort warned us not to hike at night because of the venomous centipedes and wild animals that roam around at night. But we go anyways and decide to stick to the trail that was until Greg started walking off the trail. At this point, I'm freaking out because I can't really see much and everyone is walking fast and I am just hoping I don't get left behind.

All in all, we did saw a beetle, a spider, a few constellations...

and even Mars!

But I'm definitely not doing that again! It's just too dangerous.

So what did I learn today?! I learned that...

1) It is important that we seek opportunities to expand our understanding of the world and the people around us. As we watch and learn about the outside world through we begin to truly appreciate life and come to better understand our idividual purpose.
2) Leo (the shuttle driver) mentioned that the problem with this generation is the lack of faith in God. We do our thing and put little importance on the things of God but then when something bad happens we are quick to say "there is no God. For God would not let such things happen." I agree but I also said that we also a generation that is seeking for something and he agreed. There has never been a generation so desirous of love, peace and joy all of the things that God can provide. I have come to learn that as much as we value material thibgs nothing can bring us or compare to what Heavenly Father can provide for us. For everything in this world is temporal and everything that comes from Heavenly Father is eternal.

That is all folks!
